Crock Pot Swiss Steak

Swiss steak is definitely a Northern dish. My mom told me that her mom would make this often when she was a kid! It's the true definition of comfort food. Usually it's cooked in the oven, but I thought the crock pot was a great idea!

What you'll need:
- 1 to 1 1/2 lbs round steak
- 1/4 cup flour
- 2 teaspoon dry mustard
- salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 onion, sliced thin
- 1 can of cream of mushroom soup
- 2 Tablespoons worcestershire sauce

Start off with your Round Steak. (This is about 3 lbs of Round Steak, so imagine about half of the meat)

Slice it into thinner pieces, into 3rds or in half. Something small enough to fit in your crockpot, but not as small as stew meat :)

In a plate or pie pan, add in your flour, dry mustard, salt, and pepper. Mix to combine.

Evenly coat each piece of Round Steak in your flour mixture.

Place your pieces of meat into a skillet to brown on all sides. I LOVE my cast iron. It works so well for this!

Beautifully browned! Make sure you brown it and not cook it... so keep your heat high enough to brown the meat, but low enough not to cook it - about medium to medium high heat.

Place your Round Steak in the crockpot.

In the same skillet, sauté your onions.

Once those are browned, add them on top of the meat.

Next, deglaze the pan with a little water (or wine if you have that on hand!) Making sure to get all those delicious brown bits up from the bottom.

Let it simmer for a few minutes in the pan to combine all those flavors.

Pour that on top of the steak and onions.

In a small bowl, or measuring cup, mix the cream of mushroom soup and worcestershire sauce.

Scoop that mixture on top of the meat and onions. Put the cover on the crockpot and cook on LOW for 6-8 hours.

The finished product. Delicious, savory, fall-apart pieces of steak drenched in delicious onions and sauce. Serve with some mashed potatoes and veggies!
